Why create Stage Mark?
Hello there, I'm Luke, the brain behind Stage Mark, and I wear two hats – one as the creator of this game changing product, and the other as a dedicated Production Manager. That's me on the left side of your screen, collaborating with a close friend and colleague in March 2023 whilst working in New York.
The genesis of Stage Mark stems from a recognition of the need to enhance the process of marking performance and rehearsal surfaces. As a stage manager, I understand the significance of precision when it comes to spike marks. However, the traditional methods we've been using are time-consuming, often forcing us to place temporary marks during hectic technical rehearsals, only to return later to rectify them 'properly.' Even when done 'properly,' these methods and materials fall short in delivering long-lasting spike marks because they simply weren't designed for the task at hand.
Stage Mark, on the other hand, is purpose-built and simplifies the entire spike mark application process. It not only boosts productivity but also delivers professional, enduring, and sturdy spike marks suitable for any setting or industry.
Stage Mark origin and journey..
The idea of Stage Mark had been percolating in my mind for years, crystallizing during my tenure as a stage manager for various productions across the UK and international touring circuits, including London's illustrious West End. The demands of touring often led my team and me to constantly refresh or replace spike marks due to changes in stage size or the wear and tear of existing marks. This task involved a time-consuming process of cutting and trimming using sharp objects and using flimsy PVC tape that barely lasted.
In 2019, I finally decided to take action and embarked on the journey of creating Stage Mark. I extensively researched materials that could withstand the rigors of pre-made spike marks and sought a manufacturer who shared my vision for the product's functionality and user-friendliness. That's when I crossed paths with Jim, whose invaluable contributions spanned material research, product design, and manufacturing. Our partnership continues to thrive to this day.
It's worth mentioning that Stage Mark is meticulously handcrafted in the UK, with substantial input from industry professionals and suppliers. I must extend my gratitude to Flint Hire & Supply, particularly John, for their unwavering support since the inception of Stage Mark. Stage Mark Multipacks have been available through Flint Hire & Supply since day one.
